{"id":780,"date":"2026-01-26T15:25:20","date_gmt":"2026-01-26T15:25:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.iins.u-bordeaux.fr\/?p=780"},"modified":"2026-01-26T15:25:21","modified_gmt":"2026-01-26T15:25:21","slug":"thierry-amedees-retirement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.iins.u-bordeaux.fr\/en\/2026\/01\/26\/thierry-amedees-retirement\/","title":{"rendered":"Thierry Am\u00e9d\u00e9e\u2019s retirement"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>After a forty-year career in neuroscience, Thierry Am\u00e9d\u00e9e retired in January 2026 from IINS. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A convivial evening was held in his honor, on Thursday January 22<sup>nd<\/sup>, which gathered Thierry\u2019s both longtime and recent colleagues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After a PhD in Physiology and Pharmacology (University of Bordeaux, 1987) studying the physiology of smooth muscle cells, he did a post-doc at UCL. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then, he joined <strong>Inserm<\/strong> to develop a new subject: <strong>neuro-glial interactions<\/strong> at the level of the peripheral nervous system. He then obtained a CNRS researcher position in 1989.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He joined<strong> IINS<\/strong> in 2010, in Christophe Mulle\u2019s team, to develop another project: deciphering how <strong>glial cells<\/strong> activated by <strong>neuroinflammation<\/strong> may alter hippocampal synaptic circuits in the context of <strong>Alzheimer\u2019s disease<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As our director <strong>Laurent Groc<\/strong> highlighted it during the evening, Thierry\u2019s lifetime work is remarkable and has certainly left <strong>a footprint<\/strong> in the field of neuroscience. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On a human level, Thierry will be remembered as <strong>a very appreciated colleague<\/strong>, supervisor and a mentor to many young researchers, from masters&#8217; students to PhDs and post-docs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, Thierry Am\u00e9d\u00e9e is not leaving IINS quite yet!
