Thierry Amédée’s retirement
After a forty-year career in neuroscience, Thierry Amédée retired in January 2026 from IINS.
A convivial evening was held in his honor, on Thursday January 22nd, which gathered Thierry’s both longtime and recent colleagues.
After a PhD in Physiology and Pharmacology (University of Bordeaux, 1987) studying the physiology of smooth muscle cells, he did a post-doc at UCL.
Then, he joined Inserm to develop a new subject: neuro-glial interactions at the level of the peripheral nervous system. He then obtained a CNRS researcher position in 1989.
He joined IINS in 2010, in Christophe Mulle’s team, to develop another project: deciphering how glial cells activated by neuroinflammation may alter hippocampal synaptic circuits in the context of Alzheimer’s disease.
As our director Laurent Groc highlighted it during the evening, Thierry’s lifetime work is remarkable and has certainly left a footprint in the field of neuroscience.
On a human level, Thierry will be remembered as a very appreciated colleague, supervisor and a mentor to many young researchers, from masters’ students to PhDs and post-docs.
However, Thierry Amédée is not leaving IINS quite yet! For one more year, he will keep coming occasionally as a volunteer researcher.
